Sustainability best-management practices

For over a decade, Tembec has led the way in implementing sustainable solutions as a business best practice. We were the first major Canadian forest product company to obtain ISO 14001 for our environmental management system.

You and your customers can be proud to rely on an extensive stewardship program that is geared towards maintaining and improving wildlife habitat while reducing our overall environmental footprint. Sustainability is one of our core values.

As a sustainability steward, Tembec is committed to continuous improvement. This is demonstrated by new targets to further reduce our fossil fuel consumption (as seen with the development of an on-site anaerobic treatment facility at our Matane mill); the creation of an Environment, Health and Safety Committee to actively ensure a safe and healthy working environment for all employees; and compliance to the Company's environmental policy and environmental management program to ensure legal sourcing of fiber.

Our two HYP production mills – our largest mill in Temiscaming QC, and our mill in Matane QC, strategically situated on the St. Lawrence River with excellent access to world markets – use renewable energy.

Our Temcell High-Yield Pulp is leading the way in offering clients more sustainability advantages. We consider our Temcell High-Yield Pulp to be the best alternative and complement to recycled content, which is becoming a supply-strained commodity. Along with our commitment to responsible forest management, our use of renewable energy to power our mills and our ongoing compliance with regulations will help ensure you and your customers have confidence in the leadership performance of Temcell High-Yield Pulp and of Tembec as a company.
